Fitness training and healthy living are one pursuit. If we take a list of desirable health traits and put them on a continuum we will see a curve similar to the figure above. The further you move to the right on the curve, or the closer to fitness you get, the better your health will become. This is especially true with proper attention to nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. Our workouts are therefore also a type of preventative medicine. When you are healthy you get sick less, spend less money and time on healthcare, and feel better both physically and psychologically. Proper nutrition and exercise are not simply a way to perform better or look good, even though these are nice side effects, they are essential components of a healthy life.
