My First Day As A Ballerina.

Today’s Workout:
Find Any Or All Of Your Powerlifting Maxes.

Then:
Attack the skill, strength, and metcon boards. Pick a record and take it down…

If you have known me for any amount of time you might know that I am NOT a dancer, but I promised our friends over at Sino West that I would drop in for a class long ago and finally stepped up to the plate the other night. The experience was incredibly humbling. After being into the mobility WOD for some time I had started to feel pretty confident in certain aspects of my mobility. I was wrong. The first half of the class focused on basic ballet skills of which I have none. I couldn’t even move into the positions let alone do it with timing. We then finished with stretching. Let’s just say the foam roller is nothing compared to having a tiny girl stand on your thighs trying to force you into the splits as you lay on your back with your legs up on the wall. I would never have considered trying ballet without a little coaxing, but as awkward as I felt it was awesome. It is always good to get outside your comfort zone. In my limited experience I have found that personal growth and discomfort are directly proportional. If nothing else the class inspired me to redouble my efforts in gaining more mobility and reminded me that I am not a unique and beautiful snowflake.

If I can take a ballet class. You can do The 2012 Open. You never know what you might gain by getting a little uncomfortable.

  2. I’m impressed, ballet! Would have loved to see that.
Agree on trying out new things. That def opens up your horizons and your hips.

  3. Awesome, NIck. I’ll be thinking about which workout I am going to do all day. Maybe something outside my comfort zone…which would be all of them…

  4. Speaking of being uncomfortable, I’m still acutely aware of my abs…

  5. Maybe we can do some combo classes with next door. We can do some ballet; they can do some squatting.

    • It better be crossfit kids, unless we’re only inviting the instructors haha

  6. I think a combo class should just include them screaming to rock music as they do their moves and us strechin it out

  9. You were awesome, Nick. It takes a real man and real strength to try ballet and stretch. And, it was such a pleasure having you. Anytime, we’ll work you again! And, we’ll come by for an intro session too. :)
