There Is No Spoon

Today’s Workout:

For Time:
30 Muscle-ups

Sub 120 Pull-ups and 120 Dips if you do not have a muscle-up.

Our workout are uncomfortable physically to say the least, often the biggest challenges we face are neither the fire in our lungs nor the sting in our muscles. Mental game is key when approaching any gnarly workout, heavy lift, hard skill, competition, or any other stress inducing activity. One must learn to embrace nervous energy, fear, and physical discomfort in order to perform. When applied correctly the sympathetic response to such activities can be used to heighten one’s athletic ability to a level not attainable through any other means. Unfortunately, it is not easy to embrace this energy and athletes often psych themselves out. Everyone has experienced both sides of this phenomenon at one point or another in their athletic career. The ability to combat performance anxiety can be earned through the confidence that comes with experience. Fear can also mitigated with positive self-talk in the short term. If you have a strong feeling you can do something you probably can, otherwise you might as well not even try because there is a good chance it’s a bad idea anyway. Strength, motion, and action begin in the mind. Instead of worrying about whether you can or can’t in these situations put your efforts into visualizing yourself performing and succeeding. Being mentally tough is not about never feeling fear, never failing, or never getting hurt; these experiences are human. Mental toughness is the ability to face anxiety and discomfort while putting your effort into performing the best you possibly can. Over time with focus a lot of hard work your best will get better.

It doesn't have to be fun... to be fun.
