The Squat
Today’s Workout:
The squat is quite possibly the most important and fundamental motion we practice. In fact we will most likely squat in nearly every workout or warmup we do. This is not without intention and good reason. Proper squatting requires nearly every muscle in the body to be engaged. The primary movers utilized in the legs and hips are the largest and most powerful muscles in the body. There is both an eccentric (lowering phase in the squat) and concentric (standing up out of the hole) component to the squat making it a balanced movement that requires some skill. The midline stabilization and flexibility required to maintain a neutral spine is unmatched, better yet it can be directly applied to any other motion or athletic endeavor when earned.
