Does your back often hurt after a long day of sitting? I know mine does. It's partially because you relax your posture more and more throughout the day and end up hunched over your desk, it's also partially due to the fact that your hip flexors are turning into a giant knotted mess. Your Psoas (see picture below) connects directly from your spine down into your hips. When it gets tense from hours of sitting it pulls on your back and pulls on your lumbar spine in an unnatural way. If you have back pain and sit a lot, which describes a lot of us because we work jobs that require hours of sitting, make sure you spend time opening your hips when we work on mobility.

Here's your psoas. Look at the picture and you should start to get an idea of why sitting is slow death…

  1. Spring break has actually been good for me since I’ve had nothing to do back home but work out.
    Monday:
    Push Press 8 6 4 3 2 1 1
    65lb 75 85 95 100 115 125 (new PR)
    10 RFT 10 x P/U, S/U, Squats 12:28
    Tuesday:
    Bench Press 8 6 4 3 2 2 1
    135 145 145 155 155 160 160
I was hesitant to push myself, it was probably the lack of a spotter.
    Captain’s Chair 4×20
1 mile run for time, 5:50.6
spent 10 minutes working on my double unders, got to 50, getting better linked about 20 of them at my best.
    Wednesday:
5 mile run, 8:30 pace, this was more of a recovery day cause I’m pretty sore, also came to the realization I need to go out and buy a lacrosse ball. Hoping to do more of the mobility stuff open up my shoulders and hips.
On a side note, I realized why I hate big gyms. I abused an LA Fitness “free trial pass” to get access to weight lifting equipment for the bench and strict press. Had to deal with four phone calls trying to sell me a membership, a hard sell when I showed up to work out, and a whole bunch of bullshit from the jacked up sales rep, who didn’t seem to believe I worked out more than twice a week. Fuck that.
