4 minutes?

Today's Workout

"Tabata Fran"

Alternate Tabata rounds (20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest) of 95/65lb thrusters and pull-ups for a total of 8 rounds on each exercise, rest 2 minutes at the halfway mark. Score is lowest number of reps completed in any round.

The Tabata interval is a nasty fitness tool. It consists of 8 intervals in which you complete as many reps as possible of any exercise for 20 seconds then rest for 10 seconds. This adds up to a total of only 4 minutes per exercise (today's workout will be 8 minutes total because we are alternating 2 exercises). This mode of training is effective for eliciting not only high levels of intensity, but also for simultaneously increasing anaerobic and aerobic work capacity. This is because the high short-end power output depletes both stored reserves of energy anaerobically and creates an oxygen debt that must be paid back aerobically even after the workout is over. Traditional "cardio," or slower paced endurance work alone, lacks the ability to also increase the effectiveness of the anaerobic pathways.

  1. 5 in the 6th round, was holding strong with sevens most of the way through. I lost it after the break.
