CrossFit is for everyone. The workouts we post are designed to crush elite level athletes, but they can be scaled to anyone's fitness level or ability. This includes the injured (like Dane in the picture rowing with one leg because he broke his foot) and even those with physical disabilities. The most fundamental component of CrossFit is working as hard as you can with what you have, and constantly trying to outperform yourself. There are a few heros in the greater CrossFit community who have severe handicaps, but continue to apply this principal to their lives and serve as inspiration for us all. The key is to learn how to substitute motions around the injury or disability and create a workout with the same spirit and intention as the posted WOD.
Check out these studs:
Kyle Maynard who was born with a birth defect that affected his limb development.
Ben Lunak who lost part of his leg to an IED in Iraq.
Jonathan Bik of CrossFit East Sac who lost part of his leg in a work related accident.
