Starting today whether you go full Paleo or not challenge yourself to start to put more effort into fueling your body with healthy foods and share your experiences with the rest of us. The Paleo Diet is another tool to increase your fitness, give it a try and experience the benefits and challenges of trying to eat like a caveman in our modern society. The hardest part is taking the first few steps, but the rewards are well worth the effort. After a week your cravings for sugar should subside and you will look at food very differently. If you have any questions please post them to the comments and we can all benefit from the discussions they will create.

Once again here are the guidelines we will be using for "Strict Paleo."

Paleo:

The Paleolithic diet or "paleo" for short is a simple diet. Basically you eat non-processed foods that grow naturally from the earth: meat, eggs, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds.

The Essentials of the Paleolithic Diet:

Eat none of the following:

· Grains- including bread, pasta, noodles
· Beans- including string beans, kidney beans, lentils, peanuts, snow-peas and peas
· Potatoes
· Dairy products
· Sugar
· Salt

Eat the following:

· Meat, chicken and fish
· Eggs
· Fruit
· Vegetables (especially root vegetables, but definitely not including potatoes or sweet potatoes)
· Nuts, eg. walnuts, brazil nuts, macadamia, almond. Do not eat peanuts (a bean) or cashews (a family of their own)
· Berries- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries etc.
Try to increase your intake of:

· Root vegetables- carrots, turnips, parsnips, rutabagas, Swedes
· Organ meats- liver and kidneys

  3. Would hummus be considered a paleo food?

  4. angel, hummus is made from a chick pea, which is a legume so it is technically not a part of the strict paleo diet.

  5. I like the picture. There’s my boys.
I’m in my second week of Paleo, and I’m keeping it pretty strict.
