CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. This definition works on 2 levels. The "core" fitness developed through CrossFit training provides a solid foundation for all athletic endeavors. Additionally functional motions require a large amount of core development, because they focus on a large amount of trunk and hip flexion, extension, and rotation. Powerful hip extension is the basis of running, jumping, punching, lifting, and nearly every complex motion the body performs. Training in this way causes massive amounts of core activity and is much more effective than any number of swiss ball sit-ups. CrossFit seeks to develop this core strength as it is a primary means of power transmission from hips to the extremities as well as an important part of spinal stabilization. Developing a strong core will make you a better athlete and help to prevent spinal issues along the way.
