We are athletes, not exercisers. We focus on physical performance, not physical appearance. Sure there is still a little vanity aspect to what we do; I think it is impossible to completely separate fitness and vanity. Fit people simply look better and healthier. Our workouts are competitive events. Competition drives intensity and intensity produces results. The key is to take the emphasis of your training off the number on the scale and put it into the scores of your workouts. When you start to look at training in this way it changes your relationship with the gym. Instead of simply working out each day you are trying to become a little better than the day before pushing your own personal envelope and helping others to push theirs. Its funny, but in shifting your focus to performance the vanity aspect will take care of itself. You will care less about what you look like because function is the ultimate goal, and you will start to look like a firebreather because it is what you will turn in to both mentally and physically through the pursuit of increased work capacity. It is not easy, but it is guaranteed: if you put in the work you will become fitter and in turn you will look better naked.

Great post dude. If people spent more time lowering their fran time rather than the number on the scale, they’d see a significant drop in both; more so than if they simply worked on the vanity aspect.
very true eddie. could you imagine a world where instead of being weighed at the doctors office they just make you fran and time it haha. someday.
