How often do you think about the source of what you are eating? Everything just comes from the grocery store right? After watching Food, Inc. yesterday I am pissed. If you don't know what Food, Inc. is I highly recommend getting it in some form and watching it. Authenticity is something that is becoming more and more of a myth in our world, but one would never think that the food you buy and eat, not just fast food, even at the grocery store has lost it. Industrialization of food has done wonders for volume of production, but it has taken the soul out of an industry that is absolutely vital to our lives. We are genetically engineering our food to grow faster, produce more meat, and to be more identical. These things sound good in theory, and to a certain extent they might be, but on the scale with which they are put into practice there are insane consequences. The reason for the volume of production is not so that more people can be fed, it is so that more money can be made by those who own the few large companies now in charge of a large percentage of food production and distribution. Even the FDA is run by the very people who used to lobby the government for the companies' interests that they are now supposedly policing. Through taxes we are subsidizing the commodity crops that are being used to bastardize our own food. The worst thing is that these industrial titans keep us in the dark under a shroud of ignorance about what is really going on with our food, and we are too busy, too apathetic, or too ignorant to do anything about it. Those with the power have very little incentive to change their ways, until we the people change ours. So what can we do? Start putting a little more thought into what you eat. Try to buy locally produced grass fed beef (and other meats) and organic produce. Not only is the Paleo diet good for preventing inflammation and increasing athletic performance, done in this manner it is extremely ethical. Every time we spend our money on their high fructose corn syrup containing chemically treated bullshit copy of something that used to be considered food we are voting to keep the current system in place. The first step is becoming aware. Free your minds.

Well said Nick! Everyone in the world should see that movie. Also, the book by Michael Pollan- In Defense of Food, is good too.
The obesity epidemic is definitely related to the production of calorically dense, nutritionally void foods that taste REALLY GOOD! I will look for Food inc, but Michael Pollan’s two books on the subject are very informative (the other one being “The Omnivore’s Dilemma). It does make one angry! Susan
